MY FRESHMAN YEAR
In My Freshman Year, the author says the things that tie a college community together are age, pop culture, and getting a degree. I agree with the fact that age and getting a degree ties the community together because most students are young and on their own for the first time but they are always there to work hard to get a degree. The age factor plays a role because the community involves a group of students that are mostly in the same age range opposed to kids, young adults, and adults all belonging to the same community. However, I do not understand how pop culture relates to tying the community together. Also, I agree with what the author says about fraternities and sororities by saying it takes away from your individualism. The fraternities and sororities are technically a community by themselves but are always involved with the college community.
THE MIND AT WORK
I found this interesting because it reminds me of Clue step 2 because we had to observe a public place and what people do while they were there just like the author did at his mom's restaurant. I liked this reading because I was able to relate to it because I was a server before so I know what it is like to work in a restaurant and how people act. I think that this reading helped me to better understand how to put observations into more depth instead of just observing the obvious.
